Holy Isle has been a place of spiritual practice since at least the end of the 6th century when it was the home of the Celtic Christian St. Molaise who lived in a cave on the western coast of the island. Since 1992 it has been run and owned by the Tibetan Buddhist monastery of Samye Ling on the mainland of Scotland. The monastery's abbot, Lama Yeshe Rinpoche, has made the island a centre for interfaith practice and retreat. There is a beautiful 50-room centre at the North End with a fantastic organic garden that supplies much of the food for the retreatant. And the Peace Hall offers a perfect place to learn and practice meditation - enhanced by the magical energy of the island. Mindsprings has been running retreats there since 2005.
