Could you help a researcher with her work?

Having done a therapy dissertation, I am aware of how critical it is to get good interviewees. And how hard.

So I received this email from a researcher at Bangor University, one of the foremost centres of research into Mindfulness.

If you feel that you fit the bill, please contact her directly. You need to have been practising mindfulness and meditation.

Dear Mr. Appleton,

I am a Master's student at Bangor University and in my final year of study.  For my thesis, I am conducting a research project.  The research project title is: Mindfulness and Meditation, Pathways to Insight, and Wise Choices.  I am contacting you to ask if it may be possible for you, through your network, to assist with recruiting volunteers to take part in this study.

Shantideva's Bodhicharyavatara (The Bodhisattva's Way of Life)

We're looking at aspects of love in Buddhism, and we've come to one of the core texts in the Mahayana tradition.

Written at the beginning of the 8th century in the great Buddhist university of Nalanda in the Indian state of Bihar. A tremendous centre of scholarship and learning, along with other Universities like Vikramashila, Odantipura, Valabhi and Taxila, Nalanda had 10,000 students and a teaching staff of 1,500 at its height.

Shantideva's inspired text was written as the Pala dynasty ruled in India, the Tang dynasty thrived in China and sponsored Buddhism there. It was the time of the Umayyad Caliphate conquering Spain, the Carolingian kings establishing themselves in Europe and the Mayan empire flourishing in America.

I'm working with this version by the Padmakara Translation Group:

Just in case its not been found , in the first link Alistair has put up The Way of The bodhisattva , if you click on this link and scroll down to Extras and click on that , there are several videos there on a workshop held by Wulstan Fletcher ! I think also an audio download . They are so good as he explains each chapter within the book . They are quite long and I am still working through them . but they may help in understanding the book .

"We aren’t safe inside separate minds. Being-in-the-world means we’re entangled and vulnerable - that’s how we flourish"

Really enjoyed this article.... Heidegger not someone I've come across before (every day a school day!) - will have to seek out some of his writings now.

Sharing as thought might be of interested to the Mindsprings community too! https://psyche.co/ideas/heidegger-knew-that-we-are-always-outside-weathering-the-storms

Thanks James! Though I have to say, if this is the first time you've read about Heidegger, you might be in for a rude shock when you get to grapple with the man's actual writing. Or, more particularly, his life. Brilliant philosopher, but also paid-up Nazi. Horizon-opening ideas but head-aching prose style. He's a big part of existentialism and phenomenology and shouldn''t be descredited because of his odious politics. There's much to explore. But don't buy Being and Time and imagine it's going to be all about lemonade and gardens!

Keeping it Fluid

As I jump into a new decade of life, I want to celebrate with you all by sharing a dream-like video of the amazing young Russian dancer, Vladimir Edward Pomeshikov. Sending you all peace and loving-kindness. And yes, keep it fluid! xx https://www.facebook.com/reel/1721493016292752
