- DameonEn Sharing Space26 April 2022Oh, it's so good to recognise the familiar names gradually appearing on the new website. Hi Jason, hope all is well with you since you, also, underwent surgery recently. ❤️🙏31
- Please say a little prayer for my cat Kitling who is ill in hospital.En Alistair Clips12 February 2023I did and thank you for asking! The stone got moved but not broken up or passed so there’s yet more pain, discomfort, uncertainty and waiting before surgery, which is probably now inevitable. But I guess those qualities always were inevitable too. I really hope lovely Kitling pulls through, G and I are both rooting for her! 🙏🏻🙏🏻3
- Vipashyna makes us look at misperception and how misperceptions cause suffering.En Alistair Clips26 April 2024And that is why one of your countrymen, William Blake, said “If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro' narrow chinks of his cavern.” We perceive through our biocomputer, which is different from the biocomputer of other beings, and to complicate things more, the software of our mind is molded by our culture, by the time we are living, by our very own DNA! That is why it is so important to go back, and back and back till the source of all perception recognizes itself. Since you mentioned the Vedanta parallels and Ramana Maharshi, let me recommend to all this extraordinary Advaita Vedanta teacher, which during this meditation mentions an analogy similar to the one of the banana, but using a flower. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3vddQwxA48 Please take the time to watch it, it is worth it. I send my best to all.31

- PoetryEn Sharing Space·11 May 2022I joined Mindsprings a while ago and found it immensely helpful to my heightened anxiety states. I have found some poetry to be hugely comforting, knowing that other people have been in the same state of mind and come through better stronger humans. P. Cavafy’s poem ’Ithaca’ is one that grows in my comprehension the more times I read it. I have also tried to learn poems by heart, which I found relatively easy as a young person, but now takes a lot longer. I was recently in Hospital, and it was a bit scary, so I called on my memory for the three poems I had learnt in the last two years and it was so helpful. Robert Frost’s ‘ stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’, ‘High Flight’ by John Gillespie McGee and Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116.1635
- Atisha : The Lamp for the Path of EnlightenmentEn Sharing Space27 June 2025Greetings of peace, everyone. While studying the Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment, and listening to Thursday morning's teachings about Atisha, the Path, and the Seven Branch Prayer, I am left with several questions which I am hoping can be answered. They concern the acts of making offerings at a shrine, prostration, and prayer. I sincerely wonder: to what or whom does a Buddhist make an offering? To what or whom does a Buddhist prostrate, and to what or whom does a Buddhist pray? Why is an exterior shrine necessary when the path to enlightenment is an inward journey? Why prostrate to another, even if they are a Teacher or Supreme Practitioner, when all human beings are equal, and according to Buddhism, there is no deity? And prayer? To what entity or energy? I would be most grateful for guidance on the Path. Thank you!16

- Book Club starts next Wednesday! (6th November)En Sharing Space·29 October 2024I just wanted to let you know that our annual Book Club starts next week. We're looking at Mingyur Rinpoche's amazing book In Love With The World, which, far from being a dry Buddhist text, is a bit of a page-turner. It starts with a midnight escape from a monastery and runs through a life-and-death experience in a park in Lumbini. In between, Rinpoche imparts beautiful truths about the experience of life. I'm so thrilled to be reading it with you guys. It's a free winter offering for all of the folks that support Mindsprings with their Oak or Baobab subscriptions and you can find out more about the reading schedule below: https://www.mind-springs.org/simple-info-pages/in-love-with-the-world2359
- Hello from Canada’s West CoastEn Sharing Space·16 August 2022Hello all! I’m from Steveston BC which is very close to Vancouver on the west coast of Canada. A friend recommended this site to me and given my recent unexpected and unwelcome encounters with anxiety, I thought I‘d jump into the Mastering Monsters course to see if I could find some new tools that may help me deal with this bothersome state of mind. I enjoy following the guidance of Echkart Tolle and Michael Singer and though I believe whole heartedly with their views on being present and accepting each moment as it arises, sometimes their recommended techniques just don’t seem to be enough to keep the seeds of discouragement planted by anxiety from growing into unwanted plants in my garden of calm and gratitude.2329
