Love and the Gremlins
Join Alistair in the beautiful Cardiff shrine room for a weekend exploring the ups and downs of the loving heart. Many of us want to be more loving but what stops us? This weekend of meditation and exploration looks tenderly at the 'gremlins' that make us mean.
Time & Location
03 Sept 2022, 10:00 BST – 04 Sept 2022, 16:00 BST
Cardiff Samye Dzong, 250 Cowbridge Rd E, Cardiff CF5 1GZ, UK
About the event
A two-day experiential workshop mixing contemporary neuroscience and Buddhist psychology to unpack the challenges of being a "loving human being". It will be a friendly and relaxed group. No extreme practices and plenty of space to explore these issues safely.
As meditators and human beings, many of us are aspiring to be kind and loving. Yet often uncontrollable 'gremlins' get the better of us. We get tangled in our patterns of meanness and self-obsession. When we sit down and meditate in the context of Buddhism, we might have the aspiration to be bodhisattvas - truly loving folk. Which makes the sudden arrival of mean gremlins extra disappointing.
This weekend course gives space to explore this wider experience of love and its blockages.
You will take away three life-enhacing practices:
- Polyvagal Tuning
- Hear the Heart Practice
- Dyad Practice
And we will explore:
- the difference between compassion and empathy
- compassionate listening
- getting articulate about our feelings
- Buddhist maps of the 'gremlins'
- therapeutic insights into gremlins.
- loving the gremlins themselves!
Suitable for beginners as well as more seasoned meditators.
