Ugly yet beautiful

I was enjoying the fall sun when I saw this butterfly ( Koolwitje in Dutch, little cabbage white is the literal translation) on my flowers. But then she took off and was caught in this beautiful web. My heart wept for her, as I saw the big spider immediately on her to entangle her in the web. And still it felt right that the spider did as spiders do.
As I contemplated the picture I took, it stroke me that this is an example of where something can be ugly/sad, and at the same time 'esthetically' enjoyed as beautiful.
I also recognise that I find it much more easily to appreciate the ugly, when I am not morally uneasy.

I remember ages ago a program that me and my sister, as children, would watch on Sundays called Wild Kingdom. Whenever we saw a lion chasing and killing a zebra or a crocodile eating an antelope who approached the river, we would simply scream to high heaven. I remeber as a teenager reading a quote from Arthur Schopenhauer that I will never forget: "Life is something that should not have been. It is in its very essence and character, a terrible thing to consider..." And yet, as an antidote to Schopenhauer's retreat from life, Nietzsche introduced Amor Fati (the love of one's fate). Nietzsche wrote: "My formula for greatness in a human being is amor fati: that one wants nothing to be different, not forward, not backward, not in all eternity. Not merely bear what is necessary... but love it." So, as you say, appreciate the preciousness of human life and use this opportunity to relax and enjoy this life! (I promise I'll try not to write such lengthy things again).
