Tidemills, Newhaven: Puffball

Most mornings when I can I take the dogs down to the sea. A favourite run is along the beach at Tidemills to the east of Newhaven harbour. It has the same shingly quality as the coast where I grew up in Hampshire: sea-cabbage, thrift, tabascum and this morning, nestled in the tiny orange succulents: a baby puffball. Like a pure white crystal.
