It’s been an amazing Summer in Sussex for wildflowers.
It may be because I’m usually away filming in July and August and this year I’ve been in Newhaven – but I have been dazzled by the array of wild blossom up on the cliffs behind where I live.
And I started nature spotting again. When I was a kid I was quite the naturalist. Always poring over Observer books or Spotter’s Guides to plants and animals and insects and birds and trees.
So with great delight, I found out the names of these stunning plants that I knew but couldn’t identify. And what names they have!
Fleabane and Lady’s Bedstraw. Hemp agrimony and common agrimony. Welt and mugwort. Bristly oxtongue and hawkbit.
Such poetry. And such pleasure in making an accurate identification.
